National Bank is one of Canada’s largest commercial banks and is dedicated to helping support hundreds of organizations across Canada through donations, sponsorships like Roger’s Cup, programs and diverse employee initiatives. As a part of its social responsibility commitment, National Bank’s On The Ball Program is devoted to bettering the education environment of children across Ontario and Quebec.
This year, National Bank celebrates On the Ball’s 12th anniversary with professional tennis player ambassadors Denis Shapovalov, currently ranked 25th by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and Vasek Pospisil, currently ranked 3rd in singles by the ATP. National Bank’s On The Ball Program is committed to collecting used tennis balls from local tennis clubs and tournaments and donating them directly to schools to place on the bottom of chair legs to help reduce classroom noise. This is a simple action that provides students with a quieter and more learning-friendly environment.
A tennis ball can last as little as three rallies for professional and semi-professional players. Amateurs may be able to use the same ball for up to 10 games, after which the decrease in the ball’s pressure is noticeable to the touch. When used as chair slippers in schools, each ball has a lifespan of 3 years dramatically expanding the effectiveness of the ball and its environmental impact.
To date, National Bank’s On the Ball program has collected more than 1,769,242 tennis balls, helping to change the day to day learning experience and environment of over 442,310 students across Ontario and Quebec. To date, the program has also helped reduce classroom noise by 35% placing classroom noise below the 85-decibles threshold that can cause hearing loss.
In 2018, National Bank will continue to grow its sponsorship program in local regions across Ontario and Quebec through the below tournaments where residents, visitors and clubs can donate their used tennis balls to better the education within their local communities at:
- National Bank Challenger, Grandy – July 22 – 30, 2018

- National Bank Canadian Junior Open, Repentigny – August 27 – September 2, 2018
